Civic Society Achievements
Some notable achievements include: -
- Placed plaques on buildings to commemorate people or buildings of significance. Click here to view some of them.
- Produced the Industrial Trail, Town Trail and Trowbridge Nature Trail pamphlets and a booklet entitled, "Trowbridge - By its Civic Society". Click here for publications.
- Restored the Kingston and Hastings mausoleum in the cemetery using voluntary help from members - achieved at a lower cost than the local authority had allowed for demolition.
- Restored the old Dobby hand-loom which is now an important exhibit in the town's museum
- Restored and re-instated historical milestones.
- Supported the restoration of a Lamppost engineered by Haden & Sons, which had been in storage for many years and its positioning at the redeveloped St George's Works, Silver Street. There is also a Haden drain cover nearby.
